Our Story
IV JUILLET [/katʁ ʒɥijɛ/] means the fourth of July in French.
It’s the day the founder of the brand was born, however, the naming isn’t about how special the day itself is.
Rather than representing a specific date or any special event of the year, it embodies the spirit of celebrating the pure beauty of simple yet precious moments.
Exploring the world nearly for a decade across the East and the West driven by her infinite curiosity, the founder would find herself in a different place with different people each year. Naturally, under such circumstances, celebrating birthdays of her loved ones couldn’t be the same annual ritual like before.
While her birthday became a day that isn’t any different from the rest of the year, she began mulling over the boundary between ‘special’ days and those less so. And one day, she came up with an idea about creating something that would make every day special, just like a lovely little birthday present.
At the end of the day, IV JUILLET reflects a romantic view of life of indulging in simple moments as much as possible, as though celebrating a birthday or anniversaries.
Such idea of making ‘another ordinary day’ ‘another special one’ is in line with both the concept of l’art de vivre and the brand’s core value, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Our Founder
Holding a degree in Fine Arts from Goldsmiths College, University of London in the UK and having studied Fashion Design at Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in Belgium, the founder gained extensive experience from design to contemporary art developing her eye for beauty.
During the Fashion Design course, her enthusiasm for clothes gradually withered away despite her passion for creativity. The only constant in fashion seemed to be ceaseless change, blinded by its insatiable appetite for newness in which being new would ultimately turn out to be as meaningless as being constant.
Nevertheless, fabric was the junction between fashion design and art in her art practice that connected the two fundamentally different worlds.
While enjoying dealing with the material for its fluidity, versatility and practicality, she became enthralled with myriad possibilities of digital fabric printing and so the digital printing workshop became one of her favourite places to work at.
Meanwhile, being an interior design enthusiast taught her the power of bedding. Based on her own experience, changing duvet cover and pillowcases was one of the most efficient ways to give her bedroom a refreshing makeover effortlessly.
However, finding a bedding set that truly took her fancy was always a challenge.
Such struggle eventually led her to the idea of making bedding sets she would like to have and use herself. Together with her fascination with fabric and love for everyday objects, her desire to help those who may feel the same needs was the decisive factor in her decision to embark upon the journey of creating ‘different’ bed linens.
After all, at the heart of the brand lies her aspiration: to channel her creative energy and imagination into making something practical that is to be used, not from time to time but day after day.
